A sculpture unveiled at Broward Health Coral Springs hospital on Tuesday will stand as a tribute to the victims of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman-Douglas High School as well as to those who aided and cared for the wounded.

Called ‘The Spirit of Caring,’ the monument also honors survivors and the community that rallied around the victims.

The statue, which features three figures holding a heart-shaped prism, was created by artists Judith Spater Canneto and Stephen Canneto.

Families of the victims as well as many of the doctors and nurses who attended to them were at the unveiling.

The hospital intends to add landscaping and benches to the monument.

17 people were killed and 17 others were wounded by confessed gunman Nikolas Cruz at Marjory Stoneman-Douglas High School in Parkland on the afternoon of February 14, 2018.
