Brazilian President hospitalized with Hiccups

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been admitted to the hospital after suffering bouts of  hiccups for several days.

According to a statement from the President’s office, Bolsonaro was admitted to the Armed Forces Hospital in Brasília  on Wednesday so his condition can be observed for 24 to 48 hours.

“I apologize to everyone who is listening to me, because I’ve been hiccupping for five days now,” Bolsonaro said in an interview with Radio Guaiba on July 7. “I have the hiccups 24 hours a day.”

While in one of the president’s statements he reported that the bout of hiccups came on after he was prescribed medication for a dental procedure, many citizens urged the president to seek medical treatment after recalling the president suffering a major abdominal injury from a stabbing on the campaign trail in 2018.

The incident left him with intestinal damage and serious internal bleeding which have required several surgeries.
