(BOYNTON BEACH, FL) A police officer involved in a high speed pursuit that ended with the death of a teenager on a dirtbike has been fired by the city of Boynton Beach.
After a lengthy investigation by BBPD’s Internal Affairs division it was determined that 20 year veteran officer Mark Sohn violated department policy during the Dec. 26, 2021 incident.
On the day after Christmas, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 13 year old Stanley Davis III who was observed driving his red dirtbike recklessly in the 800 block of Federal Highway.
Officers gave chase when Davis fled, reaching speeds of 85 MPH before the teen hit a curb and lost control of the bike.
Davis died at the scene.
While Sohn’s police vehicle did not make contact with the dirtbike, Boynton Beach officials determined he did not adhere to departmental policy in pursuing Davis.
According to our partners ar WPTV, Sohn has been reprimanded numerous times in his career with the city, including over another high speed pursuit where the suspect vehicle he was chasing hit a killed a child in 2016.
It is not clear if Sohn will appeal the decision.
Attorney Ben Crump represented the Davis family.
