HILLSBORO, Ore–

The boyfriend of a 27-year-old woman is facing murder charges after her body was found in a landfill.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says that Kaylee Birdzell was reported missing by her family on Friday.

Two days into the investigation of Birdzell’s disappearance, authorities received a tip that she had been killed and that her body was dumped in an apartment complex dumpster.

Officials began searching the Coffin Butte Landfill in Corvallis and discovered Birdzell’s body on August 9th.

“It is a large facility. There was a couple of semi trucks full of the garbage and they were able to get investigators out there, and they just took the tedious task of going through the garbage bit by bit and doing everything they could to help solve this case,” said Sgt. Danny DiPietro with WCSO.

An autopsy found that Birdzell died as the result of homicidal violence, but authorities did not give any other information regarding her death.

Birdzell’s boyfriend Fabian Hernandez is now facing second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse charges in regards to her death.

Officials say he was originally taken into custody on Aug. 7th for an unrelated charge of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

A motive for the killing is unknown at this time.
