A 14-year-old boy visiting from Missouri fatally fell from the Free Fall ride at ICON Park in Orlando round 11 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The shocking fall happened as the ride was nearing the ground, not when it was at the top.
The boy was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The ride stands 430 feet tall and drops you at 70 mph. It is the world’s tallest free fall ride and opened just three months ago.
A video aired by NBC Today appears to show ride passengers discussing issues with seat restraints on Thursday night. The ride is then seen heading up the tower before someone is later seen falling from the ride.
The company that operates the thrill ride said it is working with authorities to determine what happened.
The boy was in Central Florida with a friend’s family.
