Authorities in Fort Myers are currently searching for the suspect or suspects who killed a bottlenose dolphin.

The animal was found dead on a beach on March 24th after it was impaled in the head with a spear-like object.

According to officials, the wound that was just above the Dolphin’s right eye, became infected before the dolphin died.

Officials also reported that the dolphin appeared to have been shot in the head while in a “begging” position,  commonly associated with illegal feeding.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Law Enforcement is asking the public for any information about the death.  If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to call the NOAA enforcement hotline at 800-853-1964.
