The mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, reportedly broke the law last month by illegally crossing the border between Mexico and the U.S.

Blasio’s visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas violated both Mexican and U.S. immigration laws when he and his security detail illegally crossed the border, according, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The incident occurred on June 21., the mayor and his security detail were seen taking photos when a border agent approached the group of 12 and asked if they received authorization from a Border Patrol or public affairs officer to be in the area, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

They reportedly did not have a Border Patrol agent or public affairs officer with them and had been denied access to a holding facility for immigrant children.

Additionally, when the group was asked how they entered the U.S., they reportedly pointed to Mexico.
