New York’s State Park Police are reporting that the U.S. Coast guards were called out to remove a body from a vehicle that became submerged in Niagara Falls.
The discovery was made on Wednesday near the brink of Niagara Falls.
Video shared from the scene showed a U.S. Coast Guard diver lowed from a helicopter to the open trunk hatch, which was one of the only parts of the vehicle that was not fully submerged in the water.
It is unclear how the vehicle got into the river, but several witnesses told authorities that they first noticed the vehicle floating near a pedestrian bridge.
Authorities also reported that there was a light snow that day which could have made the roadways in that area slippery.
While authorities did not give much information on the victim, they did report that the woman was the only occupant of the vehicle, and that she is in her 60’s.
They also reported that the woman lived in the area but declined to release her name pending notification of her relatives.
