(POLK COUNTY, Florida)– The body of a 9-year-old Florida boy has been found several days after he fell into a Polk County lake, authorities said Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Saturday in central Florida’s Polk County, east of Tampa and northwest of Port St. Lucie, according to a release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The 9-year-old boy was with his father and two brothers on their father’s pontoon when he fell over the front of the vessel and into Lake Annie.
After falling into the lake, the boy was struck by the boat’s propeller, according to the release.
The father jumped in after his son immediately after the fall while one of the brothers called 911, but the boy was not wearing a flotation device.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., Saturday, deputies and fire rescue personnel along with multiple other agencies arrived at Lake Annie using boats and drones to search for the boy.
“There aren’t enough words to explain the angst of even the law enforcement officers, who are doing everything they can to find that little fellow so that we can recover him for the family,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd at a press conference on Monday.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced via Twitter that the search ended with the recovery of the boy’s body and the family had been notified.
