The body of a missing Florida boy has been found inside of a septic tank in a backyard after an accidental fall.
The child was said to have been playing with his sister in the backyard of a home in Crescent City, Florida on Sunday when he suddenly vanished.
The mother told authorities that she took the sister inside of the home to clean her off, leaving the other child in the yard.
When the mother returned to the yard for the one-year-old, the child was gone.
After an extended search that included police dogs and aircrafts and more, authorities discovered the child’s body a day later in a septic tank on the family’s property.
“It’s not an uncommon practice in a situation like this when there’s a child missing to search the septic tank as well,” Sheriff DeLoach said, according to News4Jax.com. “Actually one of our leadership team members that made the call to drain the septic tank. At that point, it was unfortunately when we discovered the child’s body.”
According to the report, officials believe that the child accidently fell in the tank that was covered by rotting plywood, after wandering away from the home.
