Sunrise, FL– The bodies of two high school students were pulled from the water after a vehicle they were in crashed into the canal.
Sunrise Fire Rescue officials say they received a call around 5:30 p.m. about a vehicle in a canal near the 7700 block of W. Oakland Park Boulevard.
After a difficult rescue mission, authorities eventually pulled the two bodies from the water and then pulled the vehicle from the canal.
Rescuers reported that the rescue mission was difficult because the water was 20 to 25 feet deep and filled with seaweed.
While the victims have not been publicly identified, authorities say the victims are a male and a female under 18, who attended Plantation High School.
