The body of a missing boater was discovered on Monday after he was swept away due to strong currents a day before.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the Crab Island sandbar near the Florida panhandle.
Authorities say the victim was on a rented pontoon boat with several other guests, when he jumped in the water to perform a repair:
“He and friends were having boat issues and several of them jumped in the water to try to fix it when the current pushed him away — and under the water,” the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and several other law enforcement agencies joined the search for the missing boater.
Officials did not say where or how they found the body and it is unclear if the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
According to the report, the victim’s family lives in another country.
While the site is a popular destination, the sheriff’s office says it is considered dangerous due to heavy boat traffic, strong currents, and sudden drop-offs. Multiple people die at the site every year.
