A tractor trailer fire so hot it melted the pavement has shut down the Florida turnpike southbound at Boynton Beach Boulevard.
The fire engulfed the trailer and the cab of the truck around 6:30 this morning.
Foam trucks from PBIA were brought in to extinguish the flames.
It is unclear what the truck was carrying in its payload, but the fire is out. The remnants of the contents are still smoking.

Southbound lanes of the turnpike are closed between the Lantana toll plaza and Atlantic Avenue.
The northbound left lane is also closed. Drivers should take 441, Lyons or Military Trail as their alternate.
