Belle Glade property owner, local government to stop residents from being evicted

A Belle Glade rooming house will be condemned and its residents evicted, WPTV reports.

Many of the remaining residents of the apartment building have nowhere to go.

The new owner of the property has decided to work with the Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay and Belle Glade Mayor Steve Wilson to stop the eviction process and avoid hurting the credit of the residents.

Palm Beach County’s Community Services Department and the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County have met to discuss potential hotel rooms and shelter beds for the tenants.

The city intends to work with the new owner to bring the building up to code.
