KENNER, LA–
A 26-year-old baggage handler is dead after her hair somehow became tangled in the equipment she was using to unload bags from a plane.
The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. at Louis Armstrong International Airport.
Officials say Jermani Thompson, GAT Airline Ground Support employee, was working with a belt loader to offload a flight that arrived at the airport when her hair got caught.
Thompson was left with severe injuries which she later died from.
“What we know so far is that her hair became entangled with the machinery of the belt loader,” said Mike Hough CEO of GAT. “We are heartbroken and are supporting her family and her friends as best as we are able.”
While it was not said what airline Thompson was working on, the company the woman worked for typically supplies ground support to Frontier Airlines.
