
MACCLENNY, FL– The Baker County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 46-year-old woman after she accidentally left an infant in her care inside of a hot car for hours.
Rhonda Jewell was taken into custody on Wednesday authorities were notified about the incident.
Authorities say Jewell picked up the 10-month-old from her mother’s home in north Macclenny on Wednesday around 8:00 a.m. She then drove to a home in South Macclenny where she was also set to watch two other children.
When Jewell arrived at the second home, she went inside and left the 10-month-old inside of the vehicle.
Officials say it wasn’t until the 10-month-old’s mother arrived to pick up her child at 1:00 pm that Jewell remembered the child was still in the vehicle.
The child was rushed to Fraser Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Medical staff say the child’s internal body temperature at 110 degrees- which is the highest it could read.
Jewell was arrested and is facing an aggravated manslaughter charge.
On Thursday, her bond was set at $25,000, and upon release, Jewell will have to wear a GPS monitoring device.
