A Florida mother is facing several charges after her 7-month-old son drowned in a bathtub as she got her nails done.
The incident occurred at a Southwest Miami-Dade home on May 20th around 2:00 p.m.
The mother 22-year-old Alyssa Carolyn Jimmie, told police that she left both the infant and his 3-year-old brother in the bathtub with running water as she ran down the street to an at-home nail salon.
When Jimmie returned to her home ten minutes later, she found the 7-month-old unconscious and the 3-year-old still playing in the water.
Jimmie told authorities that she felt comfortable leaving the children in the tub by themselves because the tub did not have a stopper and normally the water would just run down the drain.
She also told authorities that the nail salon was less than 62 feet away from the home.
According to the report, sometime after Jimmie left for the salon, a small rag became stuck in the drain and caused the tub to fill up with water.
Jimmie attempted CPR on the child and then went next door to a neighbor’s house to call the police.
The child was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jimmie is a member of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida has been issued a bond of $10,000.
