Not only is the victim left with an empty gas tank, they are also left with an expensive repair. Repair a gas tank can cost as much as $800 according to some outlets. Officials with AAA say they expect crimes like this one to continue happening: “As the cost of gasoline continues to increase, we believe these cases of fuel theft from gas tanks will increase as well,” said Anlleyn Venegas, spokesperson for AAA. Venegas recommends parking your vehicle inside of a garage if it is available. If you do not have one, she recommends parking your vehicle in a well-lit area with a lot of traffic.
