Authorities search for missing mother of toddler found wandering in Miramar

Police in Miramar are now searching for the missing mother of a toddler who was found wandering alone on a street in Miramar.

The two or three boy was found wandering near the area of  Southwest 68th Avenue and 18th Street on Sunday morning.

A witness saw the child and called the police.

Child found wondering alone in Miramar neighborhood

Authorities went door -to-door in the neighborhood but no one recognized the child, however,  after sharing the child’s photo on social media authorities received a tip that the mother of the child may be a missing woman by the name of Leila Cavett who lives in Jasper, Alabama.

Though it is unclear if Cavett is the mother of the child, family members of told authorities that they have not heard from her in days and that they believe she and the child may have been taken against their will as there is no reason for her or the child to be in Florida.

Other reports speculate that she may have been selling something on Facebook Marketplace just before she disappeared, however, it is unclear if that is related.

Update: Detectives are actively searching for Leila Cavett (pictured adult), who may be the mother of the child found…

Cavett was last seen driving a Chevy 3500 with a maroon or red tailgate. The vehicle also has a “baby on Board” sign on the passenger window.
