The Florida Highway Patrol says an iguana led to the crash earlier this week that sent a fire captain with Boynton Beach Fire Rescue and his daughter to the hospital with critical injuries.
The crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon along U.S. 1, near Marathon, in the Florida Keys.
According to the FHP, a car stopped suddenly in the southbound lanes to avoid hitting an iguana that was crossing the highway.
A box truck then slammed into the back of the car, and then careened into oncoming traffic, where it struck a pickup truck head-on.
