Markel was shot to death in Tallahassee in July of 2014.
The shooting occurred a year after the finalization of a messy divorce from Markel’s ex-wife Wendi Adelson.
Authorities say Wendi moved in with her mother in Coral Springs and brought her two children. Markel was against the move and took Wendi to court.
A judge ruled in Markel’s favor but Wendi filed for an appeal. During the appeal process, Markel was killed.
Investigators arrested Sigfredo Garcia for Markel’s death after tracing a Toyota Prius he rented to Markel’s home on the day of his death.
Authorities also documented that Garcia was a friend of the Adelson’s but could not connect them to the murder until recently.
Officials uncovered audio from a secret recording that suggests that Charlie played a role in Markel’s death.
He faces charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation to commit murder.
