
BOYNTON BEACH, FL– Deputies with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office were forced to shoot a man after he charged them while holding a knife.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday outside of Firehouse Sub’s located in the 9900 block of S. Military Trail, Boynton Beach.
Authorities say they responded to the scene after receiving a call about a suspicious and armed individual on the property.
When deputies arrived, they noticed the suspect, now identified as Denley Junior Alexis, carrying two large knives.
Once deputies began talking to the Alexis, he charged them.
At least one deputy opened fire on Alexis and struck him at least once.
Authorities then rendered aid to the suspect and rushed him to a hospital where he is expected to survive.
During a police interview, Alexis admitted that he was the one who called them and that he was hoping they would shoot him.
Deputies also reported that Alexis told them that they did not do their job because he was still alive.
Alexis is expected to be charged with one count of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Resisting Arrest with Violence. He has been transported to the PBC Jail, No Bond.
