(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) — A 3-year-old child is dead after being left in a hot car in Miami-Dade County.

Miami Gardens Police believe the father left the boy in the car for at least six hours yesterday outside an Educational Center where he works.

The father finally he realized he had left his child in the car for most of the day, but it was too late.

The heat index yesterday was 103 outside the vehicle, inside temperatures could have been as high as 120.

The child was one of several children from the same family who attend Lubavitch Educational Center in Miami Gardens.

“This tragedy hits close to home, and many in our school community have been affected by it. No words can capture the heartbreak and sadness we feel,” Rabbi Benzion Korf.

Officials recommend leaving something “valuable” in the back seat like a purse or a phone so parents don’t forget their children in a hot car.
