The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reporting that an alligator ate a 50-pound dog on the State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota campus.

The incident occurred on March 9th around 7:45 p.m. as a student walked their dog along the Lake Jervey Nature Path.

Authorities say the dog identified a pitbull, was not on a leash at the time of the incident.

No one else was injured, however, wildlife officials deemed the alligator a threat and sent for a trapper.

Officials say the path is located on the north side of the campus and is surrounded by trails and parking lots.

According to FWC, two alligators were pulled from the marsh.

One 6 feet, 9 inches long, and the other 7 feet, 10 inches.
