
MONTGOMERY, AL– A grounds worker at the Montgomery Regional Airport was killed on Saturday after they were “ingested into the engine” of a plane.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. as American Airlines Embraer 170 was parked at the gate with its parking brake set.
The was said to have just arrived from Dallas, Texas carrying Flight 3408.
Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of the American Airlines Group, who employed the victim, confirmed the death:
We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines,” said Wade A. Davis, the airport’s executive director. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
A person familiar with the situation told Reuters that the employee was standing on the ramp and that the engine was still running.
A preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks,” The National Transportation Safety Board wrote in a statement.
