Wednesday marks the beginning of hurricane season and gas prices continue to trend upwards.
A survey, conducted by AAA, has found that about 42% of respondents believe that high gas prices would make them less willing to evacuate their homes if recommended, WPTV reports.
60% of Floridians said they would only leave if they were in the path of a category 3 storm or stronger.
The survey also found that about one in four would ignore hurricane warnings.
AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins recommends that residents of Florida begin saving money in the event that inclement weather forces them to leave.
Community leaders urge all residents to prepare for hurricane season by stocking up on bottled water, and canned goods.
