A 34- year-old man has been arrested after he reportedly tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl as she walked home from her bus stop.
The incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 28 just before 3 p.m. in the Embrey Mill subdivision in Stafford County, Virginia.
Stafford Police say the suspect, Steven Randall Williams, reportedly walked up to the girl and asked her for directions before grabbing her:
“He then grabbed the young girl and carried her to his car and put her in the passenger seat,” the sheriff’s office said.
The child was able to escape as Williams walked around the vehicle to the drivers side.
Investigators eventually identified Williams as their suspect and took out a warrant against him.
When they went to serve the warrant, however, Williams barricaded himself inside of his home according to police:
“SWAT held the perimeter while the Drone Team flew a drone through the home. The Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to communicate with Williams, but he would not respond,” the sheriff’s office said. “Chemical munitions were deployed, but Williams still refused to exit.”
After a five hour standoff, authorities sent K-9 officers into the home to retrieve him.
Williams has been taken into custody and charged with abduction. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
