A 9-year-old boy is currently recovering in the hospital after he was bitten by a shark while vacationing in Florida.
The incident was reported on Sunday at Miami Beach.
The child’s mother Kristine Weiskopf, told reporters that she and her son where only in the water for a matter of minutes when the incident occurred.
“He just said, ‘Ow,’ and I looked down and there was about a 4-foot-gray shark just kind of swimming away, so I just scooped him up and ran him up the beach,” Weiskopf told Local 10.
The child was taken to an area hospital with a large hole in his shoulder. Doctors were able to repair the wound and are now monitoring him for infection and mobility.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Kristine wrote that she knew vacationing “was a risk” but they did not next expect this risk.
Kristine says she is concerned for others who visit the beach because despite the incident, the beach is still open.
