BROWARD COUNTY, FL– An 81-year-old bicyclist is dead after he was struck by a garbage truck while traveling on Florida’s Turnpike.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was traveling unlawfully in southbound lanes of the turnpike just south of Interstate 595 when he was struck from behind by a garbage truck.
The bicyclist was thrown from his bike and landed just outside of the merge lanes from 595 to the Turnpike.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
