BESSEMER, AL– The Bessemer Police Department is reporting that a 39-year-old father was fatally shot in front of his 8-year-old daughter during a gun sale.
The incident was reported Sunday around 4:30 p.m. along the 1300 block of 6th Avenue North.
Authorities say during a daddy-daughter day, Ricky Hamrick III took his daughter with him to complete the sale of two guns from a deal brokered on Facebook Marketplace.
During the deal, two suspects only described as black males, fired three shots into the car.
Hamrick was shot in the head, and his two guns were stolen.
After hearing the young girl scream, a woman came out of her home to see the young girl covered in blood:
“She was saying, ‘They shot my daddy, I don’t want my daddy to die,’” Brown recalled to AL.com. “I couldn’t do nothing but hold her.’
Hamrick was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the child was visiting her father in Alabama for the summer.
They were in the middle of road tripping and had plans to finish off the day at Whataburger.
As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made.
