An 8-year-old boy has died after he was shot by a man who was randomly shooting at passing cars from a wooded area near his home.
The incident occurred on Saturday on a rural road in Florence County, South Carolina.
Officials say Quarius Naqua Dunham and his father were driving through the area when they were both shot by 40-year-old Charles Montgomery Allen. Quarius was shot in the neck, while his father was shot in the leg.
Quarius was taken to an area hospital where he died a day later.
Investigators say that they are unsure why Allen started shooting at vehicles but say that when they arrived, he appeared to be high on drugs.
Authorities also reported that this is not the first time they had to deal with Allen.
Allen was arrested in the woods and charged with murder, attempted murder and four counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
He is currently being held without bond.
During the bond hearing, another victim came forward and told authorities that Allen also shot at him but the bullet hit the roof of his truck.
