A 7-year-old student is in police custody after they reportedly brought a gun to school.

The situation unfolded at Dillard Elementary on Friday.

Authorities say they received a call around 8:00 a.m. about a weapon that was spotted on campus.

The handgun was secured by police.

Authorities say they are conducting a follow-up investigation on how the child came in possession of the gun.
