Officials in Georgia are reporting that six people have died and several others were taken to the hospital after a liquid nitrogen leak at a food processing plant.
The incident was reported at the Prime Pak Foods plant in Gainesville on Thursday.
According to the report, five people died at the plant, while one person died in the emergency room.
Several others including four responding fire fighters were also taken to the hospital with respiratory complaints.
“Once the units arrived, they found large contingents of employees that had evacuated, along with multiple victims that were in that crowd that were also experiencing medical emergencies around the facility,” Hall County Fire Department Division Chief Zach Brackett said.
The U.S Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the state fire marshal are currently investigating what caused the leak.
” It was a leak of unknown cause that has occurred in the system here,” Hall County Fire Department Division Chief Zach Brackett said. ” We still have a lot of information we’re trying to gather from the scene.”
