A 5th-grade student is facing serious consequences after he threatened to shoot up a school.
The incident occurred last week in Cape Coral.
Officials say the student who attends Patriot Elementary School sent a text message to another student threatening to shoot up the school.
While investigators found that the student’s threat was not viable, the student will still face consequences:
“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second not one second, to investigate this threat.”
The student was arrested and is charged with making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.
Due to his age, the Youth Services Criminal Investigations Division is handling the case.
