5 in custody after ambush shooting of undercover Miami-dade officer

Miami-Dade, FL– Authorities have arrested five people in connection with the ambush shooting of an undercover Miami-Dade Police officer.
The officer was targeted as he was conducting a narcotics investigation near the 500 block of Northwest 42nd Street on Wednesday.
Around 4:00 p.m., the undercover officer was approached by the suspect he was going to arrest and was ambushed from behind.
The gunman identified as 32-year-old Steve Gallon IV, opened fire on the officer before fleeing the scene.
The officer was grazed by a bullet and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he was treated and released.
Despite being shot, the officer was able to take one of the suspects, 30-year-old Atiba Moore, into custody.
After several days of searching for Gallon, authorities located him hiding inside a home and arrested him once he left the home.
Three other people, 33-year-old Kendrick Jose Watkins, 27-year-old Frederick Lee Watkins, and 47 -year-old Andre Darrell Copeland were taken into custody for harboring the alleged gunman.
Gallon has been charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
Moore has been charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
