(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLA) — The 30 year old driver police accuse of causing a wrong-way crash that took the lives of 5 people is being charged with 5 counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Maiky Simeon is still hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital following the Saturday morning crash that killed four women and one man in the westbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway.

Florida Highway Patrol say Simeon was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided head on with the Honda sedan carrying Briana Pacalagua, Daniela Marcano, Valeria Pena and Valeria Caceres, at around 4:30 AM.

The fifth victim has not been named, they were all between the ages of 18 and 25.

Simeon reportedly has numerous moving violations on his record including a Collier County citation for driving 109 MPH in a 70 MPH zone, an infraction which led to his license being suspended.

FHP spokesman Lt. Alex Camacho says Simeon had a valid license at the time of the crash and the agency is working to determine if he was driving while impaired.
