A major crash involving a tractor-trailer has killed one person and injured 6 others along Highway 710 near SW Martin Highway on Monday evening.

The accident happened just before 6:00 PM and 710 north of Lake Okeechobee remains closed while Florida Highway Patrol investigates.

Martin County Fire Rescue says one of the victims is a pediatric patient and two others were transported as trauma alerts.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time, and drivers should use U.S. 98 as an alternate if heading north through the area.
