A 36-year-old man who was reportedly inspired by a teen’s video showing her licking ice cream in a store before putting it back on the shelf for another person to purchase, has been arrested.
Police say they arrested Lenise Martin III Saturday after receiving a tip from a grocery store in Louisiana that Martin III was filmed opening a carton of Blue Bell Ice Cream, sticking his finger in it, and then putting it back on the shelf.
Investigators reported that Martin III then posted the video of the incident to his Facebook page for attention.
When authorities made contact with Martin III regarding the incident, the 36-year-old showed authorities a receipt that he purchased the ice cream used in the stunt, however, officials still arrested him for “wrong doing.”
“Taking into consideration that he eventually purchased the same container is one thing,” Commander Lonny Cavalier of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Department told CNN.
“However he puts it on Facebook to gain this notoriety and at the end of the day, it gives other people ideas that are not the best interest of public health,” Cavalier continued.
Martin was arrested and is being held on charges of unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity and criminal mischief.
He will remain in custody until a judge sets bond.
