BAYOU BLUE, LA– The parents of a 3-year-old who was sent to school with makeup over a black eye, have been arrested.
27-year-old Ray Matherne Jr. and 28-year-old Amber Doiron were taken into custody on Friday after staff members from a
Head Start location contacted authorities with concerns for the child’s safety.
Investigators found that not only did the child’s caretakers put makeup on the child’s face to cover a black eye, but that the child also had marks on his neck and arm.
After an investigation, authorities came to the conclusion that Matherne struck the child in the face and grabbed him by the arms and by the neck, causing the injuries.
The couple then tried to conceal the injuries.
Both Matherne and Doiron were booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on one count of cruelty to a juvenile.
Matherne has since been released on a $50,000 bail.
Doiron remains in custody.
