(ST. LOUIS, MO)– At least 3 people are dead following a school shooting at Central Visual & Performing Arts High School in south St. Louis, Missouri.

The incident began just before 9:20 AM Monday when gunshots were heard by multiple witnesses inside the school and the police were called to the scene.

An adult female was pronounced dead at the school and a teenage girl died from gunshot wounds at an area hospital.

The shooter, a male believed to be in his early 20s, was apparently killed by responding officers.

Witnesses say the shooter was armed with a long-gun and several shots were fired before he was killed.

A total of eight people were transported to area hospitals, including one person who suffered cardiac arrest.

The name of the shooter has not been released.
