EAST LANSING, MI– Three students are dead, and five others are critically injured in a shooting at Michigan State University Monday night.
Authorities say the gunman, identified as 43-year-old Anthony McRae, opened fire at two different locations on the campus before fleeing the scene and turning the gun on himself.
According to the report, campus police began receiving calls from the Berkey Hall around 8:18p.m. and sent out “Shelter in Place” alerts around 8:30 p.m.
McRae then moved on to the MSU Union building next door and opened fire.
Officials later found McRae off campus with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
While authorities were able to identify the gunman, they are unsure what his motive was:
“We have no idea what the motivation was at this point,” police said, adding that McRae had no affiliation with Michigan State University.”
All of the victims were students.
