26 people injured by falling drywall at Hollywood casino

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Hollywood police report 26 people were injured after a gas canister exploded explosion and fire suppression equipment apparently fell through the ceiling of the Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood on Monday morning.

Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner confirmed the result of the explosion caused the roof to collapse and drywall fell into the building injuring multiple people below. Currently there are no fatalities only injuries reported.

According to Hollywood Fire Rescue officials, a fire suppression system was being installed in the attic of the building at 4150 N. State Road 7, when one of the suppression tanks blew, knocking out drywall in the ceiling and causing injuries.

The casino is located near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino which is a half mile down the street.

There were about 100 people inside the casino when the explosion occurred and the building was evacuated.

According to fire rescue, some of the people who suffered minor injuries were treated on the scene outside the casino entrance.

Others who were more seriously injured reportedly were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions are not known at this time.
