Two loaded guns were discovered on the campus of Somerset Academy in Parkland on Thursday.
According to officials the loaded firearms belong to the principal, Geyler Castro. They were found by a Broward Sheriff’s Office school resource officer inside a bag that was left unattended inside the school.
The guns were turned over to detectives. BSO said at no point did any students come into contact with the guns.
The State Attorney’s Office will now determine if charges will be filed against Castro.
The weapons were discovered on Thursday and parents received a letter giving an explanation as to what had happened the next day.
BSO is investigating.
