
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office is mourning the loss of two of their own in an apparent murder-suicide.
Investigators say the victim and Detective Daniel Leyden who were involved in a romantic relationship, where heard arguing on Saturday night in a vacation rental home in Augustine.
Witnesses say they heard first the argument and then several gunshots.
Authorities reported that both deputies were fatally shot but Detective Leyden’s wounds appeared to be self-inflicted.
The sheriff’s office has since but out a statement regarding the deaths:
“Our Sheriff’s Office family is still reeling from the shock of this unthinkable tragedy. My prayers for strength and comfort are with the families and loved ones of these deputies, and every member of Team HCSO affected by this painful loss,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.
While the victim has not been publicly identified, authorities did report that they were assigned to a uniform patrol unit.
