(GUAYAMA, Puerto Rico) — US Customs and Border Protection is reporting that they have seized 1,987 pounds of cocaine from a drug smuggling boat off the coast of Puerto Rico.
The contraband was seized Monday by agents with the Air and Marine Operations unit.
Officials reported that they noticed a go-fast boat with outboard engines and three people on board.
Authorities eventually intercepted the boat around 20 nautical miles south of Guayama.
The three suspects claiming to be from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic are now in police custody.
31 bales of contraband were seized. Authorities believe the estimated street value is $20.7 million.
