(PALM BEACH, Floirda)– Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody activated Florida’s Price Gouging Hotline Friday after Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Ian

While 24 Florida counties were covered under the state of emergency, the hotline includes all of Florida.

The price gouging law prohibits price increases for essentials during a storm-related State of Emergency, which includes food, water, hotel rooms, ice, gasoline, lumber, equipment, and storm-related services.

Violators of the law are subject to civil penalties of $1,000 per violation and up to $25,000 for multiple violations committed in a single 24-hour period.

Those who believe they have witnessed price gouging can report it to the Florida Attorney General’s Office by visiting MyFloridaLegal.com or by calling 1-866-9NO-SCAM.
