CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL–
A deputy is recovering after he was stabbed six times by a teenager while on patrol.
The incident was reported just after 2:00 a.m. in Babcock Ranch.
According to the report, the deputy noticed the 14-year-old riding a bike in the area despite a nightly curfew that had been put in place due to Hurricane Ian.
The teen told the officer that he had been fishing, however, the officer continued to question the teen after realizing that the teen did not have any fishing equipment.
The teen tried to walk away from the traffic stop and when the officer attempted to stop him, the teen hit the officer in the head.
The officer continued to try to restrain the teen while calling for backup and “a struggle ensued. ”
The teen then reportedly pulled out a pocket knife and began stabbing the officer.
Despite being injured, the officer was able to Taze the teen and hold him there until backup arrived.
The officer was flown to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
During a police interview the teen confessed that he was planning to break into shuttered restaurants in the area.
