14-year-old charged with birthday party killing

A 14-year-old boy is facing murder charges after he allegedly killed an adult male at a child’s birthday party.
Manuel Marcos Cardona was taken into custody on Monday following an investigation of the incident that occurred on June 18th.
Officials say the 19-year-old victim intervened in a fight between two other people, one of which was a woman who was allegedly struck in the face with a beer bottle.
As the victim tried to separate the fight, Cardona’s father punched the victim and Cardona came up and stabbed him with a pocket knife.
When the victim fell to the ground, a witness told police that several people at the party including Cardona’s parents, kicked the victim until he fainted.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died the following day.
Several days after the stabbing, the Cardona’s attempted to flee the area on I-95 South.
Other relatives, however, followed the family and gave police updates on their location. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office eventually stopped the vehicle and took them into custody.
The teen has been charged with second-degree murder. Despite his age, he will face the charges as an adult.
It is unclear what started the fight, however, it was reported that Cardona and his family were not invited to the party.
