DEERFIELD BEACH, FL– The Broward Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Westside Park last month.
14-year-old Keantae Vaughn was taken into custody and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of Rickey Ferguson.
Authorities say they responded to the area along the 400 block of Southwest Second Street on Dec. 26th to find Ferguson suffering from gunshot wounds.
Ferguson was taken to an area hospital where he was being treated until his passing.
Officials have not confirmed Ferguson’s death, however, his mother posted on her social media pages that her son has “passed on.”
While authorities have made an arrest, the motive is still under investigation.
A friend of the teen told reporters that Ferguson kept to himself:
“He just played football, go home. The man don’t do nothing wrong,” Nick Williams said.
If the event that Ferguson has passed on, charges against Vaughn will be upgraded.
