Alpena Township, MI– A 13-year-old boy is being called a hero after he stopped a 17-year-old suspect from kidnapping his 8-year-old sister.
The situation unfolded on May 10th in Alpena Township.
The 13-year-old told police that he was inside playing his video games while his then 8-year-old sister was outside in the backyard hunting for mushrooms.
At some point, the suspect appeared from the woods behind the home and grabbed the child.
During the struggle, the brother heard his sister scream and looked to see what was going on:
“So I looked out the window and saw her being abducted by a person and I’m like freaking out,” the boy said.
The 13-year-old says he then grabbed his slingshot and a marble and a rock and struck the 17-year-old in the head and chest.
The child was able to escape and run to safety.
The suspect ran to a nearby gas station but authorities were able to identify him due to his obvious slingshot-related wounds.
The 13-year-old told authorities that he just got lucky:
“I was just lucky. He’s just a big target because he’s not like one Pepsi can,” he said.
The 17-year-old suspect is being charged as an adult and faces attempted kidnapping/child enticement, attempted assault to great bodily harm less than murder, and assault and battery.
